Almost every regret in a finished house was decided at first fix.
An installation happens in two visits, separated by the builder's work. First fix is the rough-in, before the walls are closed. Every cable is run, every point is positioned, the board is set, and the whole layout of the house's electrical system is fixed in place. Second fix is after plaster and paint, when the fittings go on and everything is terminated, tested and energised.
A switch on the wrong side of a door. No power where the bench ended up. A pendant point 300mm off centre over an island that had not been set out yet. None of those are difficult problems at rough-in and all of them are expensive afterwards.
So we spend the time at first fix that most of the trade does not. We walk the plan with you before a single cable is run, standing in the actual rooms, working out where you will put things and how you will move through the space.

Why the cable runs matter even though nobody sees them
Once the plaster is on, every installation looks the same. The difference between careful work and quick work is buried in the wall, and you find out which one you got years later, when somebody opens the board to add a circuit and either finds a labelled, logical layout or a mess. We work on the assumption that somebody will open it later. Usually that somebody is us.
Cables get run straight, grouped and secured properly. Not because anyone will admire it, but because a tidy rough-in is faster to fault-find, safer to work near, and much easier to add to.

Every circuit described in words a person can read, not a number that means something only to the electrician who installed it.
What a Certificate of Compliance actually is
A legal document stating the work was carried out and tested to the standard, signed by the licensed contractor who did it. It is your evidence for insurance, for a future sale, and for anybody who works on the house later. It is not optional and it is not an extra. Every job we do produces one and it is issued to you without you having to ask.
Working on an older home
Most of our renovation work is exactly this. Older homes need the existing circuits assessed before new work is added, because what is already in the wall determines what can safely be extended and what has to be replaced. That assessment happens at the site visit, not on the day.

Common questions.
Do you work with my builder or do I engage you directly?
Either. On a new build we are usually engaged as a subcontractor and work to the builder's programme. On a renovation clients often engage us directly. Both work, and the difference is mostly about who coordinates the timing.
How far ahead do you need to be booked?
For a rough-in tied to a builder's programme, as much notice as you can give, because the window is fixed by the plasterer. For smaller renovation work, less. Talk to us early even if the dates are soft.
Can you work on an older home with existing wiring?
Yes, and most of our renovation work is exactly that. Older homes usually need the existing circuits assessed before new work is added, because what is already in the wall determines what can safely be extended and what needs replacing.
Do you do the lighting design as well, or just install it?
Both, and they are separate services. If you already have a lighting plan we will install to it. If you do not, we design it. See the Lighting Design page.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes, a Certificate of Electrical Compliance is issued on every job. You do not have to ask for it.
Do you install what I have bought myself?
Usually yes, provided the fittings carry an RCM mark and are suitable for where they are going. Send us the details before you buy anything for a wet area or an outdoor location, because that is where most client-supplied fittings turn out to be unsuitable.
