Every design is tailored to the individual space and to how the people living in it want to use it, and that comes out of thorough consultation rather than assumption. We consider every detail before anything is ordered or installed. The lighting is drawn first, room by room. Then we install it ourselves.

Tell us about your build or renovation and the stage it is at. The earlier lighting is drawn, the more of it can be designed rather than fitted around.
What a lighting plan contains.
Lighting design is a document, not a conversation. It is the thing that lets a builder, a joiner and an electrician all work to the same intention. Ours covers:
- 01Every fitting, room by room, specified as an actual product rather than a symbol
- 02Beam angle, colour temperature and output, chosen for the surface each fitting has to light
- 03Exact positions, dimensioned, so ceilings can be set out before they are closed
- 04Switching, dimming and scenes, including what groups with what and what each scene does
- 05Circuit and driver requirements, so the electrical design follows the lighting instead of constraining it
Lighting works in layers.
A room needs three kinds of light. Ambient light to set the level. Task light where something actually happens, a bench, a desk, a reading chair. Accent light on the things worth looking at, artwork, texture, a stair. Once those are separated and separately controlled, a room can be bright and working at seven in the morning and low and quiet at ten at night, without touching a single fitting.
One team, concept to commissioning.
Bringing in a lighting designer usually means adding a person, not removing one. You still need an electrician to install the scheme, and you still need someone to referee when the drawing meets the ceiling.
We are both. Arie leads the electrical and lighting engineering. George runs the design and the client relationship from first call to handover. Both of us are on site for the install, not sending a crew in our place.
When to bring us in.
At concept or plan stage
Everything is available. Ceiling heights, joinery, coves and the electrical can all be designed around the lighting rather than the other way around.
Before first fix
Still a full scheme. Positions, switching and circuits are all open, and nothing has to be cut back to suit wiring that already exists.
After the ceilings are closed
We work with the positions you have. Fittings, control and dimming can still transform a room, but the layout is now fixed.
In a finished home
Retrofit. Replacing dated or failed fittings, converting halogen and fluorescent to LED, adding dimming where there was none. Often the point where a room finally gets rethought properly rather than patched again.
If your build is already moving, it is not too late. It just narrows what we can do, so it is worth a conversation sooner rather than later.

Not every project needs the same thing.
Design and installation
We draw the scheme and we install it. One team, one point of contact, one party accountable for the result.
Design only
We produce the full lighting documentation and hand it over for another electrician to install. The drawings have to stand on their own, and we stay available to whoever is building from them.
Installing to your design
You have an architect, an interior designer or a lighting designer, and you need the scheme built properly. We work to your documentation and commission the result.
A second opinion
A paid review of a scheme already underway. We assess the layout, fitting selections, dimming and control, flag what will not perform on site, and mark up the plan. Best done before ceilings are set out and ordering is locked in.
Lighting upgrades
Retrofit work in a finished home. Replacing what is dated, failed or was never right to begin with.
A design built by someone else.
We were engaged to design the lighting and automation for Norton Summit Residence, a single-storey pavilion of 306 square metres with flat three metre ceilings under a raked roof. We started from a clean sheet and specified Kasta control throughout.
Installation is by a separate contractor who has not worked with Kasta before, and that shaped the documentation. Every plate is drawn with its mechanism model. The scenes are specified rather than left to be worked out on site, and the switching is set out so that someone meeting Kasta for the first time can build it correctly.
Complete drawings are where it starts, not where it ends. We stay available to the contractor building it for as long as the job runs.

For architects, designers and builders.
We can review a lighting scheme you already have and advise on it, or we can be brought in to design the whole layout from the start.
We install to your documentation and we read it properly. Conflicts get raised while they are still questions rather than variations. Drivers, dimming compatibility and control are resolved before the order goes in. You get a commissioned result and your client sees your scheme, built the way you drew it.
At Norton Summit Residence the lighting was documented for a contractor meeting Kasta for the first time, so the drawings had to carry the detail on their own. They do, and we stay on hand through the install, whether we are the ones doing it or not.
